Simply put, our executive functions are what help us get stuff done. We use EF to envision a goal, lay out a path toward that goal, and manage our emotions, use flexibility, & stay motivated to successfully execute our plan. Whether that is writing a paper, cooking a meal, or planning a social event - we ALL use executive functions every day!

What is executive function coaching?

College requires students to implement executive function skills with independence.

Students need to be able to:

Navigate multiple course syllabi

Use a calendar effectively

Have a system for managing assignments and due dates

Problem-solve and adjust strategies

Avoid procrastination

Manage frustrations and emotions about assignments

Be flexible when tackling tasks

Advocate to professors

… And so much more

That’s where coaching comes in.

An effective coach works with you to:

  • Review course syllabi - paying attention to detail!

  • Create a calendar system that works for you

  • Make to-do lists and prioritize tasks

  • Email professors and make plans to attend office hours

  • Break down multi-step tasks into manageable, discrete chunks

  • Review assignment guidelines to not miss any details

  • And more: individualize sessions to meet your goals

Executive function is complex.
